Edgartown Guest House
This custom guest house in Edgartown is a refined example of how thoughtful design and precise craftsmanship come together to create a space that feels both timeless and effortless. Built in close collaboration with Hutker Architects and Hutker Interior Design, the project was designed to complement the main residence while standing confidently as a fully realized home of its own.
From the exterior, the guest house reflects classic Vineyard architecture, with cedar shingle siding, crisp white trim, and a balanced roofline that sits comfortably within its natural surroundings. A pergola-covered entry and carefully proportioned deck create a welcoming transition between indoors and out, reinforcing the connection to the landscaped grounds and mature trees beyond.
Inside, the space opens to a bright, open-concept living area anchored by large, divided-light sliding doors that flood the interior with natural light. These doors frame views of the lawn and gardens while creating seamless access to the outdoors. Natural wood trim, wide-plank flooring, and shiplap detailing establish a calm, coastal palette that feels warm and intentional without being overly formal.
The kitchen is compact yet highly functional, designed for extended stays and everyday comfort. Custom cabinetry in light wood tones, integrated appliances, and clean-lined hardware give the space a modern sensibility that still feels rooted in traditional Vineyard design. A stone countertop, thoughtfully placed windows, and a streamlined layout allow the kitchen to feel open, efficient, and connected to the main living area.
Throughout the guest house, the craftsmanship is in the details. Trim work is clean and consistent, transitions between materials are precise, and built-in storage is seamlessly integrated to maximize space without visual clutter. In the bedroom, custom millwork and built-ins provide both function and symmetry, reinforcing the architectural intent while creating a peaceful retreat for guests.
The bathroom continues the same understated elegance, featuring a glass-enclosed shower, natural stone flooring, custom vanity cabinetry, and open shelving. Natural light and soft finishes give the space a spa-like quality while maintaining durability and ease of maintenance, key considerations for a guest-focused residence.
This Edgartown guest house is a reflection of our long-standing approach to custom construction on Martha’s Vineyard: collaborating closely with architects and designers, respecting the island's architectural context, and executing every detail with care.
